How They Got Here
As the CEVO-P Season 6 champions, the Dallas Venom earned an auto-berth into Season 7 to defend their title. The Venom are hoping to make CEVO-P Source history this fall by becoming the first team to win three championships.
CompLexity also has a shot at that record as the Season 3 and 4 champs. But the more recent titles belong to the Venom, not to mention our own rankings giving them the benefit of the doubt, and their three championships would be consecutive, as well – something Los Angeles, and for that matter every other CEVO-P champion, can’t claim.
Looking Ahead
You’d think it would be easy to find things to talk about for the highest-ranked team. But in a way, I feel there isn't much left to say about the Venom. Their results sort of speak for themselves.
They won Season 5 of CEVO. They beat Carolina in the Season 6 CEVO-P Finals. They finished in first place with a 9-3 record in the CGS regular season and won the CS:S Individual World Championships (along with the $25,000 prize). And, if that wasn’t enough, Dallas is now 7-0 in the CGS Pro-AM after demolishing 3D.NY, as well as fellow CEVO-P team Cyber Revolution (playing as FEVER in Pro-AM), among other teams.
As such, you can see why the results speak for themselves. They’ve pretty much won every tournament they’ve entered.
The Venom did have a bit of a stumble in the CGS World Finals, where they fell to the Optx 7-11. That cost the Dallas franchise at least a top-four finish. But even that’s just one game, and the Venom have been almost flawless for the past few months. I don't think I need to convince anyone why the Venom deserve to be in the number one spot.
To sum it up, all of the top eight teams are capable of winning. Then again, the season is only a few days old, and given the Venom's past results the team is already on pace for their third straight CEVO-P championship.
