How They Got Here
After a 6-6 record in CGS season 2, good for third place, Complexity has once again returned to CEVO-P in hopes of dethroning the two-time champs, the Dallas Venom, and earning the team's third championship in CEVO-P Source.
They got invited into the PT for a simple reason: Complexity is, without a doubt, one of the biggest names in eSports. They were ready to tango, and CEVO would have been foolish to not extend a special invitation.
After getting in the PT, they rolled through their first two matches (surprise!) to get into the league.
Looking Ahead
While I've noticed a lot of discussion about coL underperforming this year, by no means did they play poorly.
The problem is that most of us have coL's 2007 performances fresh in our minds and expectations are high for this legendary lineup. It’s no secret that Complexity was head and shoulders above the rest of the teams during their first year in Source. They won almost every league, championship or tournament that came their way.
Fast-forward to 2008 and coL looks more like a "normal" top Source team - plagued by some inconsistency but still a dominating force at any given time.
The most glaring example of that inconsistency is their eye-popping loss against a rather unknown team, 9Frame. It’s important to mention that coL has also been playing 1.6 and Source, in both CEVO and Pro-AM, for the past few months, and making the daily transition is a difficult task. Nonetheless, there’s only a handful of teams that coL should ever lose to, and 9Frame isn’t one of them.
However, with CEVO-P 1.6 behind them and the Pro-AM 1.6 playoffs coming up soon, coL's 1.6 revival is coming to a close… at least for this year. For the first few weeks of CEVO-P they’ll be balancing both Pro-Am divisions and regular season CEVO-P play, continuously switching between two games and having multiple matches a week. That could take a toll on their overall performance, but luckily for them their first two matches should be a breeze with KEYBOARD SMASHERS up first, followed by inet (formerly PK). Even balancing two leagues and two games, should come out of those matches 2-0 and ready for more.
Their schedule will clear up after a couple weeks when Pro-Am ends, and that's when the fun will begin. compLexity has what it takes to claim their third championship this season. No doubt about that. But I also think they’re not far and away the best team anymore. The rest of the league has caught up, not only in talent, but desire, as well. compLexity will be in a constant struggle with the Optx and 3D, and those three should go back-and-forth all season, shuffling between second, third, and fourth place.
Still, something would have to go terribly wrong for coL not to be at least in the top four, and that’s a great season in a deep, talented league.
