After five nights of group play only 16 teams remain from the original 25. The top three teams from each group, along with one wildcard team, have advanced to the double-elimination bracket which will determine the 10 teams that will move on to compete in CEVO-P Season 7. The double-elimination tournament begins tonight when teams go head to head on de_nuke.
This evening's winners will be only one win away from CEVO-P, while losing teams will have to endure the lower bracket. The first 8 teams are determined by taking four teams from the upper bracket, and four from the lower.
The remaining two teams for CEVO-P will be determined by taking the losers from the second round of the lower bracket and pitting those four teams against each other (I'm calling this the Last Chance Bracket). The two winners advance, the two losers go home

(1) Chicago Chimera vs. (16.) Mug N Mouse
Thursday, October 9 - 10:30pm CDT

* Scorebot: #chicagochimera
sapphiRe's prediction:
Chimera > Mug N Mouse 13-7
MNM has been off and on from what I've seen. They defeated vANSKAP last night in 2 of 3 maps, but vANSKAP also defeated Chimera in CGS Pro-AM. I'm going to go with the favorite on this and say Chi-town will take it. Chimera could run away with a 13-3 win if they start CT side, but to be safe I'll go with 13-7.
Guest prediction from bmK (dynamic):
Chimera > Mug N Mouse 13-4
"We have the #1 seed vs. the #16 seed (last). MNM is known to have problems on de_nuke and it's one of their weaker maps. On the other hand, Chimera, who is a CGS franchise team, probably has a lot of experience on de_nuke. If MNM wins the knife round, I see them getting a few rounds CT side, but not nearly enough to win the match. Look out for Chimera to take this one with ease."
(8) Team.NEG vs. (9) PK
Thursday, October 9 - 10:15pm CDT
* SourceTV: pending

sapphiRe's prediction:
NEG > PK 13-11
I feel that NEG has the more talented line-up filled with a plethora of experience, while PK might have the teamwork or at least put in more practice together. NEG may struggle a bit on T side. However, each one of their starters can be an impact player at anytime, coming up with numerous multiple frag rounds on CT. I'll go with NEG in what should be a close one.
Guest prediction from demonic (dynamic):
NEG > PK 13-9
"Basically, theres two ways this match will go down. If remix can keep his cool, and keep his teammates motivated, they will have an easy win. If this doesn't happen, PK will have this match easy as long as they work somewhat as a team. I think NEG will have this one, though."
(5) 3D.NY vs. (12) vANSKAP
--Final score: 3D > vANSKAP 18-15 (in overtime)
sapphiRe's prediction:
3D.NY > vANSKAP 13-10
vANSKAP has turned some heads lately. I don't think they will be able to overcome 3D tonight but don't count them out. They'll be able to make a run for the top 10.
(4) Skull Gaming vs. (13) KEYBOARD SMASHERS
--Final score: Skull Gaming > KBS 13-7
sapphiRe's prediction:
Skull Gaming > KBS 13-8
Skull should have no trouble making to the top 10. While KBS should put up a bit of a fight tonight, especially of the side selection plays in their favor, Skull should be able to prevail here.
Guest prediction from J0KA (dynamic):
Skull > KBS 13-9
"I think skull has this match in the bag we have played them many of times on nuke and they are very strong on it. With no doubt it is their best map, beating 3D on nuke also shows what they can bring to the table. Kbs might be able to make it close if they can start ct but they won't be able to handle the smokes and super flashes skull has practiced for hours."
(6) Hyper vs. (11) Dynamic
--Final score Hyper > Dynamic 13-2
sapphiRe's prediction:
Hyper > Dynamic 13-9
I'm having a hard time predicting this match. In all honesty, I'm just going with a gut instinct on this one and saying Hyper.
Mike's prediction
Hyper > Dynamic 13-9
I have to say I like Hyper as a team. Badapples is an underrated player. NightFall is talent... wait, sorry, this isn't 2006. My bad.
Truth be told, the roster has changed but I still like Hyper quite a bit as a team. They've got a lot of talented players; they're just different names than the last time I wrote anything on this site. Shredder and Daemos are Hyper mainstays, guys like KLUWE, waxxt, AlphA, and Pr0D are some of the additions, and they shouldn't have any major trouble making the cut for CEVO-P this season.
For Dynamic, I've always like Demonic as a player - he can have a huge impact in any given round, much like NightFall for the Hyper of old, but I'm going with Hyper. I don't think it'll be an easy match by any means, but Hyper should come out with the W.
(3) San Francisco Optx vs. (14) eX
--Final score: Optx > eX 13-11
sapphiRe's prediction:
Optx > eX 13-6
If Optx start CT, this will be over in a jiffy. Rumor has it clowN made a recent sensitivity change back to what he used during his championship at CPL 2005. This is big news. I'm going to say he will top frag tonight because of this. eX still has potential for the top 10.
Mike's prediction
Optx > eX 13-7
Sometimes in sports you run into the odd team that plays great for two months, then tanks for a while. We generally call these teams the Chicago [Insert Team Name Here], and the tanking happens during the playoffs.
The OPTX were that team during the CGS season, except in reverse. They got off to an awful start and then picked it up, helping to carry the organization to the World Finals after almost consigning them to also-rans. We haven't seen a lot of action in Source since then, but I'm still buying into their turnaround. Paradox finally seemed comfortable at the end of the season, and even if they're a little rusty, they should be able to dispatch eX.
(7) justBALLS vs. (10) CyberRevolution
Thursday, October 9 - 10:45pm CDT
* SourceTV:
* Scorebot: #justballs , #cyberrevolution
Mike's prediction
CyberRevolution > justBALLS 13-11
I like both these teams. Usually when this happens, I flip a coin to decide which one gets a winning prediction. That way I can just blame fate or the quarter. It's not my fault it landed on heads. It's plausible deniability for predictors.
This time I'm going to take a stand. I'll go with Cyber Revolution. Of the four matches I'm predicting, it should be the closest one—so close that it might actually be a toss-up.
Cyber Revolution is playing in Pro-Am with a similar roster under the name of FEVER, and they've been very good. On the other hand, jB is 3-0 in the CGS Pro-Am, too. It'll come down to the end, but I think Cyber Rev is just a touch stronger.
Guest prediction from Griff ('94 Knicks):
justBALLS > CyberRevolution 13-11
"Unless Ridic comes up huge for CyberRev on CT, look for justBalls to squeak this one out 13-11 or possibly in OT."
(2) Los Angeles compLexity vs. (15) eXult
Thursday, October 9 - Time pending
* SourceTV:
* Scorebot:
sapphiRe's prediction
compLexity > eXult 13-5
Not much to be said here. coL handed eXult a 0-13 loss in group play. Maybe eXult will be able to pick up a few more rounds this time considering coL also has a 1.6 match tonight....eXult could preform well in the lower bracket though. Keep an eye out for them there.
Mike's prediction
compLexity > eXult 13-6
There's only so much you can say about this match. Complexity beat eXult 13-0 on Season and 13-5 on Train. Does anybody think this is going to be an upset?
Then again, we could have said the same thing about Complexity playing 9Frame. In fact, I think I did say the same thing about Complexity playing 9Frame. But let's not get into where I've looked like an idiot in the past. There are so many chances to look like an idiot in the future, and I'm all about the future. Complexity should win big.
(Providing they don't come down with 9Frame-itis, in which case all bets are off and I take no responsibility for an incorrect prediction.)
